What is Invisalign?
Invisalign essentially straightens your teeth discreetly, unlike traditional braces. They are a series of custom-made, clear aligners that progressively move your teeth into proper alignment. They are easy to wear, effective, and almost invisible so you can achieve a straight smile with confidence! Get more information on Invisalign and its benefits by visiting our Invisalign page.
Facts about Invisalign Aligners
There is a ton of misinformation out there about Invisalign, but we’re here to straighten things out (no pun intended!). Here are a few facts about Invisalign to help you make the best and most informed decision for yourself.
Invisalign Straightens Teeth and Corrects Malocclusions
Invisalign effectively corrects crowding and spacing issues, straightening your teeth. It also corrects overbites, underbites, and deep bites, known as malocclusions.
There are a ton of treatable cases that Invisalign can correct – it’s not only to straighten crooked teeth! The transparent teeth aligners fit snug onto your teeth, and over time, incrementally move them into the desired position for a straight smile – it’s that easy!
Invisalign is for Adults Too
Did you know that more than 4 million people in Canada and the United States need orthodontic/cosmetic dental care and 1 in 5 are over the age of eighteen? Also, only 35% of adults have well-aligned teeth. That means most adults need braces – they are not just for kids anymore!
But, since braces are more commonly seen on kids and teenagers, many feel embarrassed to wear them as adults, and we don’t blame them! Braces are extremely noticeable and need to be on for a few years at the very least. Invisalign is perfect for adults because they are discreet and go unnoticed, allowing you to stay confident throughout the process! You will finally be able to achieve the perfect smile without any embarrassment or judgement in the process. Invisalign is designed for confidence!
Invisalign Treatment is Short
On average, it takes less than 2 years, usually around 12 to 18 months, to see full results. Most people start to see changes in their smiles within weeks, but most continue treatment until their full results are achieved.
Of course, everyone is different, and the amount of time you have to wear your Invisalign aligners is based on your case. This will be determined in your initial appointment with Dr. Sobhi at Kingwest Dental Studio.
Invisalign is Used Worldwide by Many People
Invisalign was first invented back in 1997. Now, over two decades later, Invisalign is used worldwide in over 45 countries and has helped over 10.2 million people achieve straight smiles, with 2.5 million patients currently getting treated. Now that’s a lot of people! You can trust that the Invisalign treatment will give you your desired smile and the happiness and confidence you need!
Invisalign is BPA Free
Yes, you read that right – Invisalign is completely BPA free and FDA-Approved! Invisalign is made from medical-grade polyurethane resins and doesn’t have any BPA, BPS, latex, or gluten in it – so everyone can get treated without a worry in the world! Invisalign truly is the ideal option!
Tips on Getting the Most Out of Your Invisalign Aligners
Okay, now that you have all the facts, you may be curious about how the aligners work on a day-to-day basis. Well, we’re here to give you that info and a few tips on how to get the most out of the experience!
Wear Your Invisalign Aligners for 22 Hours a Day
At the beginning of your treatment, Dr. Sobhi at Kingwest Dental Studio will discuss a treatment schedule and plan specifically for you. All patients need to wear their Invisalign aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day. That may sound like a lot, but you’ll be sleeping some of that time and won’t even feel your aligners! Plus, regular braces aren’t removable and don’t allow you the freedom of taking them off, so Invisalign is still the ideal option!
The 2 to 4 hours that your aligners are not in your mouth are to eat, drink, brush, and floss (we’ll get to that in the next few sections).
In order for Invisalign to do its work, you need to keep them in for the recommended amount of time each day. Obviously, we’re only human, and if one night you forget, it’s not a big deal. But just remember, they only work when they’re in your mouth!
Remove Your Invisalign Aligners When Eating and Drinking
As mentioned above, you will need to remove your Invisalign aligners to eat and drink anything but water. If anything else is consumed with your aligners on, you risk staining your aligners. Plaque can also easily build up on your teeth if you eat with your aligners in causing all sorts of other issues, including cavities, bad breath, and tooth decay. So, to keep your oral hygiene in check and your aligners as unnoticeable as possible, make sure to take them out!
And we know there will be some curious patients out there (it’s only natural) but trust us when we say anything other than water will stain your aligners. So yes, white wine will still stain them even though it seems like a light-coloured beverage. Just take out your aligners, then enjoy that tasty glass of wine!
Carry Your Invisalign Case and a Toothbrush with You
Since you’re not home 22 hours a day (although it may feel that way with the recent lockdown), it’s best to take advantage of your provided Invisalign carry case. Keep it in your purse or jacket, so you have somewhere to put your aligners when you’re at work or out to eat with friends. Even if you don’t plan on eating, we highly suggest you carry it with you at all times, so you have the option if you do get hungry or suddenly crave your favourite beverage.
Along with your carry case, you should always have a travel toothbrush with you. With Invisalign, you have to up your oral hygiene so plaque and bacteria don’t get trapped between your teeth and your aligners. Every time you eat or drink, you need to brush your teeth. So, having a designated travel toothbrush that stays in your purse, jacket, or car is ideal. That way you’ll never forget one and your mouth will stay fresh all day!
Clean Your Invisalign Aligners Frequently
Because your Invisalign aligners are almost always in your mouth, they can get dirty if not cleaned multiple times a day. The best time to clean your aligners is whenever you take them out. Anytime your aligners are going back in your mouth, they should be cleaned along with your teeth. So, as we mentioned above – after you eat or drink anything other than water, you should brush your teeth AND clean your aligners.
Remember when we said to keep a travel toothbrush with you? Well, you should actually keep two on you – one for your teeth and one for your aligners. You only need toothpaste to clean them, which again you’ll already have with you for your teeth! It’s simple, clean your aligners whenever you clean your teeth, and your Invisalign experience will be a hygienic one!
Once you start the Invisalign process with Kingwest Dental Studio, Dr. Sobhi will thoroughly show you how to clean your aligners. For now, watch this 2-minute tutorial by Invisalign!
